Understanding EMDR
What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful psychotherapy technique that helps people heal from distressing life experiences, memories, or thoughts.

The Origin of EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy was developed by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s after she observed that specific eye movements appeared to reduce the emotional intensity of distressing thoughts.
Since its inception, EMDR has evolved substantially through decades of clinical research and innovation. Today, therapists have access to a wide range of advanced protocols and techniques that build upon Dr. Shapiro's original discovery, enhancing both the effectiveness and adaptability of treatment. Kelly has pursued advanced training with internationally recognized leaders in the field to provide clients with the highest standard of EMDR care.

Kelly believes that by adulthood, most people have experienced events—whether obvious or subtle—that continue to influence how they think, feel, relate to others, and move through life. These experiences often remain outside of conscious awareness, yet they can quietly limit a person's sense of confidence, peace, and fulfillment.
How It Works
EMDR uses a form of bilateral stimulation to help your brain process and integrate traumatic memories, troubling thoughts, etc. reducing their lingering negative effects. Kelly has many techniques that make the process, many times, easy - and sometimes even enjoyable.

Kelly explains the entire process and makes it easy.
Evidence-Based
Approved by the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization, EMDR is recognized as an effective treatment for PTSD and trauma-related conditions. A growing list of conditions have found effective treatment through EMDR. Kelly is specially trained in combining world-class EMDR with other therapeutic techniques.
How Trauma Affects You
Trauma leaves lasting imprints on the mind and body. When experiences overwhelm our natural ability to cope, they can become "stuck" in our nervous system, continuing to affect us long after the original event.
Symptoms of Trauma
Panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares, sleeplessness, a constant sense of unease, or overwhelming feelings
Emotional Reactivity
Overwhelming reactions to reminders of past experiences - or even outsized reactions to normal, everyday events.
"I Can't Get Over It"
Intrusive memories that loop in the brain, playing the same scene over and over.
Feeling Stuck
Difficulty moving forward or making progress in life - or avoiding something for a long period of time
If you recognize these symptoms, you don't have to live with them. Healing and even flourishing is possible!

— "She's not like any other therapist I've had, and I mean that in a good way...

And she has so many things she uses to help you. She is incredibly kind, but challenges you when you need it. The best therapist I've ever had, by far."

— "I leave every session feeling like I have a new, fresh perspective. Kelly has some kind of magic touch. I've never seen myself get better and better like this."

How EMDR Helps You Heal
EMDR therapy guides your brain through a natural healing process, helping you transform painful memories into those that no longer control your life.
Reprocess Painful Memories
Transform the way your brain stores traumatic memories, reducing their emotional charge and ongoing impact.
Reduce Emotional Intensity
Learn to respond to triggers with greater calm and less reactivity, regaining control over your emotions.
Improve Mental Clarity
Clear mental fog and gain the focus and perspective needed to make informed life decisions.
Restore Emotional Balance
Develop a healthier relationship with your emotions and experience greater overall well-being.

We Offer Two Paths To EMDR Therapy
EMDR therapy can be personalized to your needs, your comfort level, and the pace that feels right for you. We offer both weekly EMDR therapy and EMDR Immersion, so together we can determine the best path forward for your healing journey.
Weekly Therapy with EMDR
60 MINUTE SESSION
EMDR can be offered in the midst of regular weekly therapy, providing ongoing support in a gentle and supportive environment.
You'll have time to process painful memories, reprogram how your body reacts to them, and learn real-world strategies you can use between sessions to move forward and flourish in your life.

Kelly is also trained in a variety of other evidence-based therapy approaches, which can be integrated into your treatment whenever they will best support your goals.

Kelly recommends this approach for most clients. If you're feeling stuck because of a single distressing experience—such as a negative reaction to eating meat that has led you to avoid it for years—EMDR Immersion may be an excellent fit.
EMDR Immersion
3 HOUR SESSION
EMDR Immersion is a more focused experience with extended 3-hour sessions. This path is designed for clients with busy schedules or who want a concentrated approach to process specific trauma, troubling memories, or emotional distress while still remaining supported and in control of your healing journey.

Additionally, some people have just one troubling experience that they need help with. EMDR Immersion is right for this.
Many clients find the experience so beneficial that they choose to continue their growth through ongoing weekly therapy, building on the progress they made during their EMDR Immersion sessions.

One-time session or multi-session available.

What to Expect in EMDR Sessions
Your comfort and safety are my top priorities. EMDR therapy is conducted in a gentle, supportive environment where you remain in control throughout the process.
1
Initial Consultation
We'll discuss your history, current challenges, and goals for therapy to create a personalized treatment plan.
2
Preparation
Learn relaxation techniques and establish coping strategies before processing trauma memories.
3
Memory Processing
Using bilateral stimulation, we'll gently process targeted memories while you remain calm and grounded.
4
Integration
We'll discuss insights gained and ensure positive beliefs are solidified for lasting change.
You don't have to relive traumatic experiences in detail to see phenomenal results. Some forms of EMDR help your brain process memories without requiring you to verbalize every detail.
